Upcycled Inner Tubes
Inner tubes are an environmental disaster. They’re made to last, with a butyl polymer in the rubber that’s also used in gas masks and other emergency gear, just because it’s so durable. So it takes them 50-80 years to decompose in landfill.
To avoid this, they are often burned as fuel because of their high combustion heat – which is not good for local air quality.
But there is another option – reusing them! Inner tubes feel like leather and have a similar density; and they have an added plus for anyone who wants a vegan alternative to leather.
